On Sunday, August 31st, take a deep breath and let the world slow down for a few hours. Nature Nurtures is your chance to unplug, move with intention, and connect with yourself. Through this article, we asked one of our hosts, Zoë Kaede Weaver, to describe the event and give us some tips on what to bring.
Through guided nature bathing and outdoor Hatha yoga, we’ll help you pause and soak in the calm, restorative beauty of UBC Botanical Garden. Whether you’re a student wrapping up summer and easing back-to-school nerves, or a professional ready to slow down before fall’s demands, this is your moment to breathe, move, and reconnect.
Here is what our guest can expect on the day of the event.
- 12:30 – checkin-in opens: At the Garden’s main entrance, the friendly UBC Botanical Garden team will welcome you. Take a moment to settle in, enjoy the surroundings, and prepare for the first session.
- 1:00 pm – Nature Bathing with Tara: Dr. Tara Tiger Brown will lead you through a 30-minute nature bathing. This will be an intentional, unhurried experience. You’ll notice the scent of conifers, the sound of leaves moving in the breeze, and the filtered light through the canopy. Tara’s gentle prompts will help you tune in to your senses and deepen your connection to nature.
- 1:30 pm – Hatha Yoga with Zoë: As the nature bathing concludes, you’ll make your way to Wharton Glade, a serene clearing framed by towering firs. Here, your yoga instructor Zoë Kaede Weaver will guide a 60-minute Hatha yoga session. She described this as “a smooth, steady flow that blends balance, “spicy” challenges, and chill moments in just the right measure to push your capacity without losing your breath.”
Expect progressive sequences, moments of play, and a closing meditation that will leave you feeling centred and renewed.
- 1:00 pm – Hydration Station Opens Head to our hydration station, where Bush Berry will be serving refreshing iced teas. Sip, chat, and enjoy the view. They’ll be serving during and after Hatha yoga to ensure you can cool down and rehydrate after your work out.
- 3:00 pm – Closing By the time the afternoon wraps up, you’ll have experienced a meaningful pause that lingers long after you leave the Garden.
