Accessibility at the Garden

UBC Botanical Garden welcomes visitors of all abilities and is committed to providing an enjoyable experience for everyone. Most main pathways are level and surfaced with hard-packed gravel or pavement, though some areas feature natural terrain and may be uneven. Accessible parking is available near the Garden entrance and the Shop & Garden Centre, and accessible washrooms and seating areas are located throughout the Garden. Care attendants and certified assistance animals are also welcome to accompany visitors who may require support.

Please note that the Greenheart TreeWalk includes suspended bridges, and the Cultivara Tree Climb area involves elevated structures and physical activity that may not be suitable for visitors with mobility challenges. If you have specific accessibility needs or would like assistance planning your visit, please call us at (604) 822-4208 or email us at garden.info@ubc.ca. We will do our best to ensure that we provide the best experience possible when you visit.

Accessible parking for UBC Botanical Garden is available in the main UBC Botanical Garden Lot (Zone 5642), which is paved and includes designated accessible stalls. Payment is required and can be made via HonkMobile or at the parking machine. A valid SPARC (accessibility) permit must be displayed when using accessible parking spaces.

If you have mobility challenges, the free UBC Accessibility Shuttle serves campus areas; advance booking is required by calling 604-822-9929. For current path conditions or accessibility questions within the Garden, please contact UBC Botanical Garden directly before your visit. Several benches and rest areas are available throughout the Garden to support guest comfort. These seating areas offer opportunities to pause, rest, and enjoy the surroundings at a relaxed pace.

Accessible washrooms are available on site, and their locations can be found on the Garden maps. UBC Botanical Garden has three washrooms: one near the entrance, one in the Garden Pavilion, and a portable washroom near the exit of the Greenheart TreeWalk; while Nitobe Memorial Garden does not have washrooms on site, nearby facilities are available. Please ask the Admissions Desk for directions.

UBC Botanical Garden includes a mix of wheelchair-accessible pathways and areas with uneven or natural terrain. Accessible routes are clearly marked throughout the David C. Lam Asian Garden, while some sections of the Garden feature dirt paths, slopes, or uneven surfaces; guests who may need additional support are encouraged to speak with staff for guidance and route recommendations.

UBC Botanical Garden offers discounted admission for seniors, youth while children 5 and under come in for free to help ensure the Garden remains welcoming and accessible to visitors of all ages. Details on concession pricing are available at the Admissions Desk or here.
