A Bird’s-Eye Adventure
The Greenheart TreeWalk invites visitors to explore the forest from a new perspective, navigating suspended walkways and tree platforms high above the forest floor. Stretching 310 metres through the heart of UBC Botanical Garden, the walkway weaves among towering Douglas firs, cedars, and grand firs, many over 100 years old, reaching heights of nearly 20 metres and offering a rare bird’s-eye view of Vancouver’s coastal temperate rainforest. Visitors can move at their own pace or join a guided tour to learn about the plants, wildlife, and unique ecosystems thriving in the canopy, culminating at a 23-metre-high viewing platform for sweeping forest vistas.
Designed with both adventure and conservation in mind, the Greenheart TreeWalk allows visitors to experience the upper forest without harming the trees or surrounding habitat. Unlike traditional treetop walkways that require bolting into trees, Greenheart uses an innovative cable tension system to suspend platforms safely, with features like the “Tree Hugger” cable and “Kissing Bar” stabilizer ensuring minimal environmental impact. This thoughtful engineering provides a safe, immersive way to connect with the forest while preserving its delicate ecosystems for generations to come.
360 Tour of the TreeWalk
Step into the treetops from wherever you are with our 360° video tour of the Greenheart TreeWalk. Look around as you glide along the suspended walkways, peek over platforms, and take in the sights and sounds of the forest canopy.
Guided Tours
The Greenheart TreeWalk offers a chance to explore the forest canopy with guidance from naturalists, who share insights on the region’s diverse ecosystems, tree identification, and the traditional uses of plants by First Nations. Along the way, you may spot wildlife such as bald eagles, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, and owls, while learning how the forest supports both plants and animals. Open from April 1 to October 31, the walkway can be experienced as part of a guided tour for groups of 10 or more, or independently at a leisurely pace.
