Joint collection of forays
UBC Botanical Garden, in partnership with the UBC Herbarium and Faculty has established occasional plant collection foray within British Columbia. For the Garden, these forays help serve the purpose of renewing the native plant collections within the British Columbia Rainforest Garden as well as develop the collections in the Garry Oak Meadow and Woodland Garden and the Pacific Slope Garden. These forays also help to provide field experience and training to students and expand the documented knowledge of the British Columbia flora.
Field Expeditions
Botanical expeditions and research partnerships are essential to the mission of botanical gardens. By exploring diverse habitats and collaborating with institutions worldwide, gardens expand their living collections, document plant diversity, and support global conservation efforts. These collaborations ensure that plants are ethically collected, accurately identified, and shared for research, education, and conservation

Botanic Garden Conservation International (BGCI)
UBC Botanical Garden is a data contributor to BGCI’s PlantSearch database, which provides conservation professionals with access to records of living collections across >1.4 million accessions from over 1,100 institutions worldwide.
GGI Gardens
UBC Botanical Garden is part of the Global Genome Initiative for Gardens (GGI-Gardens)—a collaborative, science-based effort to collect the Earth’s genomic biodiversity, preserve it in the world’s biorepositories, and make it accessible to researchers worldwide. UBC Botanical Garden received a GGI-Gardens Award in 2023 to support the collection and documentation of high-quality plant tissue samples underpresented in biorepositories.
UBC Partnerships
The UBC Botanical Garden collaborates closely with various UBC departments, research units, and institutes to advance plant science, sustainability, and a range of disciplines, including chemistry, genomics, geography, and social sciences. These partnerships foster interdisciplinary research, support student training, and enable innovative projects that connect living collections with cutting-edge studies in genomics, chemistry, ecology, sustainability and environmental stewardship.
