Have you found yourself wanting to spend less time doom-scrolling and staring at screens, yearning to reconnect with nature and touch grass? We get it, and we’re here to offer you exactly what you need to reset your mind and feel grounded right in time for the fall.

Join us for the second time on August 30th, 2026, from 12 pm-3 pm for Nature Nurtures: a mindfulness retreat with guided Hatha yoga and nature bathing in the garden – offering you a chance to slow down and take a deep breath in Wharton Glade.

You can expect a beautiful nature-bathing workshop guided by UBC assistant professor Dr. Tahia Devisscher, as well as a calming Hatha yoga session taught by certified instructor Katie Dritsas.

Limited spots are available; no previous yoga experience is necessary. Sign up here!

Benefits of Nature Bathing

1. Source of Stress Relief

Spending time outdoors has been shown to lower adrenaline and cortisol levels, and can calm the nervous system and reduce stress. After just one intentional session, many people find themselves feeling more relaxed and balanced.

Additionally, BC’s native evergreens release a pleasant scent and emit phytoncides, which are natural essential oils believed to support immune function. Some research suggests that the positive effects of exposure to phytoncides can continue for days or even weeks.

2. Can Boost Mood and Improve Focus

In addition to lowering stress hormones, nature bathing can decrease anxiety and anger, while improving mental clarity, memory, and attention span. Unplug from the digital world and invite tranquility into your mind; this practice encourages your thoughts to be creative and calm.

3. Can Help Improve Sleep

Spending time looking at plants, water, birds, and other aspects of nature gives the cognitive portion of the brain a break and can help to reset natural circadian rhythms for deeper and more restful sleep.
