Last season, something new took shape at UBC Botanical Garden.
Over the course of the year, more than 450 guests, ranging in age from 5 to 92, climbed into the canopy with Cultivara Tree Tours. What began as a new offering quickly became a defining experience for many visitors, with consistent feedback pointing to a lasting shift in how they see and connect with the forest after climbing into the canopy.
Members of the Friends of the Garden and Garden staff took part in dedicated climb days, experiencing the trees and landscapes they care for from an entirely new perspective.
The tours welcomed many first-time visitors to the Garden, while local radio and television features helped introduce the experience to a wider audience across Vancouver.
What Climbers Are Saying
“Fabulous. Magical. Inspiring.”
“What an amazing experience—and even more special because we were able to do it as a family. Our son (7) absolutely loved it.”
“WOW! What an exhilarating experience. Beyond the thrill of the climb, you get the opportunity to truly connect with nature.”
“I’m 68 years old… the harness, the seat, the ascender—everything felt perfect.”
“YOU HAVE TO DO THIS!.. 10/10—I’ll remember this day forever.”
“Highlight of our family trip to Vancouver. Such a unique experience, and a lifelong memory for my wife and three daughters.”
Building on that momentum, Cultivara returns for a second season with a refined set of guided climbing experiences. Located just minutes from downtown Vancouver, the tours offer a rare opportunity to explore the upper canopy of a world-class botanical garden.
For those looking to fully immerse themselves, longer daytime and sunset canopy expeditions reach heights of over 50 metres. A shorter Canopy Intro experience provides an easy way to step into the canopy for the first time, with pay-what-you-can pricing to support accessible canopy education.
Explore the canopy and experience the Garden from a new perspective.
