Our Healthy Harvest season is back, bringing fresh, nutritious produce from the Garden to community members.

Established in 2017, Healthy Harvest was created to provide fresh, locally-grown nutritious produce to our community.

This year’s harvest is well underway. As of August 5, we have harvested 268 kg (591 lbs) of fresh food. So far, some of our top-producing crops are Swiss chard (56 kg), lettuce (32 kg), and turnips (22 kg). With many more weeks left in the growing season, we look forward to seeing the harvest continue to grow and contribute to feeding our community. Healthy Harvest would not be possible without the support and collaboration of our partners. It has been especially rewarding to work alongside the Alma Mater Society (AMS) Food Bank, with thanks to our UBC Botanical Garden staff, FOG harvest team, UBC students, and community volunteers for their support.

“This season we have made further efforts towards circularity – the off cuts of produce from our processing go to the worm bin and the rest to the Garden’s compost pile as usual. We are looking forward to activating our worm bin in compost education through tours and activities! It has been great for Keisha and I, working alongside our wonderful returning and new volunteers this season! Shout out to Megan, Kate, Will, Malaya, Christine, Jihyun, Gabriel, Marianne, Marie & Christina for their dedication this summer!” – Lauren

“I am always in awe of the plentiful Wednesday morning harvests, a diverse display of food plants that feels like a buffet for my eyes. Being surrounded by such fresh, nutritious plants while connecting with our amazing volunteers has made this harvest season a highlight of my summer. I look forward to continue supporting this harvest season especially as it starts to peak with fall produce such as tomatoes, beets and pumpkins!” – Keisha
