Magnolia Season in the Spotlight: UBC Botanical Garden Featured by Curiocity

As magnolias across Vancouver reached their peak bloom, UBC Botanical Garden was being recognized as one of the best places in the city to experience the season. In a recent feature by Curiocity, Associate Director of Horticulture and Collections Douglas Justice shared why this year may be “Vancouver’s best magnolia season yet.”

Thanks to a mild winter followed by a cool spring, magnolias have been blooming slowly and lasting longer, creating ideal conditions for visitors to enjoy these spectacular trees at their peak. Douglas explains how magnolia blooms unfold gradually, with the falling of their protective bud scales signaling that the flowers are about to open, offering visitors a chance to witness this seasonal transformation up close.

The feature also highlights the Garden’s popular guided Magnolia Walks, which allow guests to learn more about these remarkable trees while experiencing one of the most beautiful moments of spring in Vancouver. With the first walk selling out quickly and additional tours added to meet demand, it is clear that flower season has captured the city’s attention.
