An evening with Dr. Suzanne Simard
Peter Wharton was the much admired curator of the UBC Botanical Garden’s Asian Garden. The Peter Wharton Lecture was established to honour Peter’s memory and legacy.
We are pleased to announce Dr. Suzanne Simard as the speaker for the lecture this year. Dr. Simard has spent over 25 years researching how trees communicate through underground webs of fugal filament that help them support and look after each other to keep the forest healthy. Her research was distilled into her recent book, Finding the Mother Tree: Uncovering the Wisdom of the Forest, which instantly became a New York Times bestseller. It has received widespread praise from the scientific and literary communities alike.
Please join us for an evening lecture with Dr. Simard, which will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.
Dr. Suzanne Simard BSF’83 is a professor of Forest Ecology in the UBC Faculty of Forestry and the leader of The Mother Tree Project. She holds a PhD and MSc in Forest Ecology from Oregon State University and a BSF in Forest Resource Management from UBC.
