Welcome back to UBC Botanical Garden’s Annual Lunar New Year Market, celebrating the Year of the Snake. All are invited to experience the cultural traditions and connect with the Asian Garden, with something for everyone of all backgrounds to enjoy.
Our market will feature over 40 local makers and food trucks. UBC Botanical Garden will also offer fresh auspicious flowers, dried floral arrangements, and potted plants for sale. Enjoy a photo booth by Dang Good Booths, an exciting lion dance and kung fu performance by the UBC Kung Fu Club, and participate in workshops like calligraphy, sweet dumpling dessert-making and watercolour painting. Tickets include admission to the garden, where you can learn about both cultural and horticultural wonders.

Location: UBC Botanical Garden, 6804 SW Marine Drive
(Please note: there is no parking available on-site. There is paid parking available around campus and the closest parkade is Thunderbird Stadium).
Cost: $8.88 after tax and fees – limited tickets available. Free for children aged 5 and under.

Sweet Dumpling Workshop
Indulge in a fun-filled, intimate workshop where you’ll learn the secrets behind making sweet dumplings (甜湯圓 (tāng yuán | tong1 jyun4-2) ), a delightful Lunar New Year dessert. Our skilled instructor will provide step-by-step instructions, making it easy for everyone, even if you're new to dumpling-making! By the end, you'll leave with the skills to recreate these delectable treats in the comfort of your own kitchen. Bonus! You get to eat the sweet dumplings you make.
Calligraphy Workshop
Join the members of the AMS Asian Brush Calligraphy for a Lunar New Year calligraphy workshop! Our club members will guide you through the art of calligraphy. In a festive setting, you will create Lunar New Year calligraphy works using traditional brushes and ink (all materials will be provided)! Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere and embrace creativity, culture, and good fortune at our calligraphy workshop.
Watercolour Workshop
In this two-hour Chinese brush painting workshop, participants will learn traditional Chinese brush stroke techniques. Enjoy creating simple, small paintings, such as bamboo, chickadees, and hibiscus flowers, while mastering a variety of brush strokes.

Discounts, Garden admission tickets, UBC/UNA Card Holders, and Garden Membership do not apply on event days
Cancellation Policies: UBC Botanical Garden's Lunar New Year Market is a not for profit event. We do not have the capacity to change tickets for a different day or refund tickets. If the market is cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, ticket holders will receive a gift card for the value of their tickets that can be redeemed for UBC Botanical Garden and Nitobe Memorial Garden admission and in The Shop in the Garden
