Do you ever wonder about the habitats in your own school, park or outdoor space? In this lesson, students are able to explore biodiversity in action at the UBC Botanical Garden, investigating the habitats within the garden. Biodiversity is a key aspect in the Science 3 BC Curriculum. Biodiversity refers to the variety of different types of living things in an ecosystem.
This lesson would be most beneficial to take part at the end of the Biodiversity unit, as there is a summative component that can be done, included at the end of this lesson. Students will be able to take part in the tour at the Garden, and then become Garden Researchers and explore the several living things (animals, insects, plants, etc.) in this space. This cross-curricular lesson fulfills components from all subject areas such as Science, Math, Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies, and Arts Education
