Do you want to sharpen your plant identification skills according to professional standards or have plant id skills and need to brush up on plant identification specifics? This is the class for you!
The goal of the workshop is to offer horticulture professionals the opportunity to improve their plant identification skills by learning common morphological traits of selected plants. Plant identification skills are vital to field crews. Improve your company’s bottom line by sending out field crews who understand the nuances of plant identification.
Class includes lecture and trainer supervised hands-on plant identification.
• Improve and practice your plant id skills
• Review basic terminology
• Use taxonomic keys and field guides to learn species
• Learn how to properly identify common trees and shrubs
Instructor Bio: Along with duties as the Associate Director, Horticulture and Collections at UBC Botanical Garden, Douglas Justice also teaches in both the Applied Biology and Masters of Landscape Architecture programs at UBC, is head of the Garden’s Horticulture Training Program, and is involved with public and industry extension. A former nursery manager, gardener and horticulture instructor, Douglas holds a Bachelor’s degree in horticulture and a Master’s in botany. He recently headed up the team that created the App Vancouver Trees, available through iTunes and is currently writing a book on trees for the Vancouver area. He is an active member of a number of local, national and international plant and garden organizations including: Alpine Garden Club of British Columbia, American Public Gardens Association, American Society of Plant Taxonomists, and BC Fruit Testers Association.

Cancellation Policies: A $15.00 processing fee per attendee is charged if cancellation notice is less than 7 days prior to your scheduled program. There is no fee for transferring the registration to another person. Cancellations can be made online or by contacting email@example.com. In the event that a program is cancelled by UBC Botanical Garden, we will offer the option of transferring to another program, or obtaining a full refund.
